NEW YORK NEW YORK – My sister-in-law, Francesca Barra, has produced a documentary film based on Norman Lewis’s book, Naples ’44. Here it is opening here at the Film Forum. I took my Leica Monochrom, which was the wrong choice of equipment for this event so the results were disappointing.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A film gallery today. I’m shooting with a late Leica M3 – I plan on pursuing film with a Leica M3. I also have an early model M3 that is in for an overhaul – I’ll sell one of these cameras when the early model comes back, depending on which I like best.

Today I’m shooting a very high acutance, essentially grainless, film called Adox. The results are remarkable – the downside is that it’s rated at ISO 20 but is closer to ISO 12, so it’s full sunlight or a tripod. The clear base also has a nasty curl, making it a challenge to scan.

Anyway, here’s a gallery of film shots.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A perfect day. Francesca and Derek organized a continuation of last night’s party at the Breslin, and I spent some time shooting medium format film with my Mamiya 7 and a new (used) 120mm lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’m continuing to experiment with film – today shooting medium format with my Mamiya 7. This camera, which is effectively a great big plastic Leica (getting 10 6x7cm images on a roll of 120 film), is noted for its remarkable lenses. Mamiya, for example, copied the design for the lens on the Hasselblad Superwide and actually improved on it in the 43mm wide angle (giving the equivalent angle of view of the Hasselblad Superwide or a 21mm lens on a full frame digital camera). The scans came out beautifully. I’m including a small gallery to give you a sense of how these are coming out.
