NEW YORK, NEW YORK and CHICAGO, ILLINOIS – Well I’m two for two on out the window shots for the day. I started the morning in New York with a lovely sunrise. Yes, I’ve said that I don’t do sunrises and sunsets but this seemed sufficiently spectacular to warrant and exception. Out our dining room window with my Leica M9 and 28mm Sumicron Asph. lens.

Midmorning I left for Chicago to attend an two day mutual fund directors’ conference. By the time I got to my hotel and registered for the conference the day’s rather poor light was failing. I took a walk along the Chicago River but didn’t take anything that I liked. When I got back to my hotel I got this out the window. Leica M9 and 90mm Elmarit lens.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – In midtown for meetings. This was a good day for photography. The light was soft and encompassing – about 4:00PM is a great time of day to photograph Manhattan this time of year. I had enough good ideas that I had trouble selecting a single photograph. I initially posted a a new take on an old friend, the iconic Seagrams Building, with a very wide Voigtländer 12mm lens. After further review of the images I edited the post (on October 13) to include an additional image. I get feedback offline from a number of sources who help out as an informal editorial board (for example the Leica forum on GetDPI.com).

Here’s the second image captured with a Leica M9 and 54-year-old 50mm Dual Range Summicron (modified for M9).

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Another dull day compounded by a light drizzle. This is waiting for Maria outside of the uptown, westside theatre where Bachelorette is playing.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – It’s possible to walk most of the way around Manhattan on the water. This is a relatively recent development = there are gaps (for example on the East side in the 50s) but construction continues. To an important extent this relieves the sense the Manhattan is cut off from the water by major highways (the Westside Highway and the FDR Drive). Anyway, here we are on the East River in the 60s.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – A rough day for photography. I spent a very long day at my desk. In the world of daily photographs 365 brilliant images a year might be too much to ask for. Here’s the best I could do.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – 919 Third Avenue, where my office is located.  Got this walking to the office this morning in brilliant, encompassing late fail light.  For the week of November 14 through 21 I’m using a single camera and lens: a Leica M9 with a 35mm Summicron Asph.  This is a wonderfully flexible combination.  When I need wider I shoot to stitch multiple frames together.  I rarely need longer.   919 Third Avenue is a Skidmore Owings & Merrill building completed in 1970.  It closely resembles an earlier Mies van der Rohe design.

New York, New York – This is where the rubber meets the road.  A desperate day from the photo a day blog perspective.  A long day in meetings.  At 6:55 PM I shot the cityscape out my window to have something to post.
