NEW YORK NEW YORK – A modest day photo-wise that yielded this image of a vacant lot for my Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summicron Asph. lens. Some days it may just be better to stay home.
On this day last year: Alley. So December 14 was a dull day last year.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – So on Tuesday, two days ago, I caught a shot with a very wide lens going up the steps at the subway stop at 86th Street and Lexington Avenue. Here’w what the same stop looks like from the outside – from the street – on another brilliantly sunny day. Taken with my Leica Monochrom and a 24mm Summilux lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – We found ourselves on a roof terrace of a neigboring building looking at an apartment with Laura and Alexander. The situation begged for a very wide lens but I only had my 35mm Summicron Asph lens with me. I don’t use zoom lenses on my Leica, so I take multiple frames and stitch as a substitute for zooming to wider angles. The first image is two frames stitched and the second is nine frames stitched. For complex projects like this I find that a piece of specialized stitching software called PtGui is better that Photoshop because it provides for direct control over perspective distortion.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A day of changing light. There was a brief moment of sunlight as I walked up the steps at the 86th Street subway station. Taken with my Leica Monochrom and an 18mm Super Elamr lens.
On this day one year ago: Torrington Congregational Church.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – This is the best time of year to photograph Manhattan at night. “Night” happens early. It’s dark by 5:30 0r so so the lights are still on in most offices while the exteriors are dark. This opportunity continues through mid-January, but at least now it’s not freezing cold. I’m working without a tripod here with a fast lens, my 24mm f1.4 Summicron, and relatively high iso (5000) on my leica Monochrom. Shooting up in Manhattan is a regular theme here. Here you go:

WARREN CONNECTICUT – An unseasonably warm, foggy day. This kind of weather rubs me against the grain. I’m an optimist. My glass is never far from full. I like sunny days with dark blue skies and puffy white clouds. None of that today. Here we are in the fog. Taken with my Leica Monochrom and a vintage 50mm Summicron lens, three frames stitched. By the way I’ve temporarily disabled my star rating system and my Facebook integration because they both play badly with a new version of WordPress that we installed a few days ago. We;ll get it sorted out eventually.
