NEW YORK NEW YORK – Well this is finally the last week of November, the busiest month of my year. I have a week of meetings and calls which is distracting me from the visual world. I found a few moments this morning to explore our living room with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Dual Range Summicron lens.

MUSTIQUE – Our last day in the Grenadines. I’ve gotten a strong positive reaction to the photo of Maria’s bathing suit below (taken with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Noctilux lens), probably because that it carries a suggestion that Maria has shed it and is nearby sunning. Actually she’s off packing and the swimsuit is just on the post drying off. Context is all. Then a selfie of me in a mirror that I quite liked.

MUSTIQUE – Here we are still, swimming, eating and drinking rum punches. At lunch at the Cotton House beach bar and a still life from our house. Both taken with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Noctilux lens.

MUSTIQUE – Go ahead and say it. For the past couple of days I’ve been shooting in a mojo-free zone. I must have left it back in New York. Maybe my mojo doesn’t like the tropical climate. Like a good Bordeaux. But today I found it. My mojo must have taken a later flight. Some not bad images today, at last. All with some assistance from my Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summilux lens.

Bedtween MUSTIQUE and BEQUIA – We chartered a powerboat for the day to make the trip to Bequia and to do some snorkeling. My pictures from Bequia are uninspiring so I’m posting some portraits from the boat ride. I did come away from Bequia with on treasure, though: a tee shirt from the Whaleboner Bar.

Taken with my Leica Monochrom and 35mm Summilux lens.

MUSTIQUE – I thought that I’d use today to get the cliches off of my chest. It’s not as bad as it could be because I’m down here in the hot tropical light with a camera that only shoots black and white, the Leica Monchrom. So let’s start today’s post with some trees and rocks. Yes, we have them in the Caribbean and they can be the subject of uninspiring photos here as easily as they can in Connecticut. First the trees then the rocks.

It was a challenge shooting the tree. I wanted the palm, the greenery framing it and the shadow – the widest lens i had with my on the trip (a 24mm) wasn’t nearly wide enough so I took six overlapping frames and hoped for the best stitching them. “Hoped for the best” because stitching wide angle images often doesn’t work – I have three different stitching software packages. Photoshop failed at this but PTGui Pro nailed it.

Now for the rocks.

Another tree. This from a spot outside of the Cotton House where someone must have put a some house plants in the ground a few years back – they’ve grown into a monster clump the size of a city bus. Some detail, and on reflection, my favorite from today.
