SCHLOSS ELMAU GERMANY – A couple of observations. Some days are better than others. This was not a better day. Despite the alpine scenery my photographs were meh.

Every day before I leave home base I take a picture to make sure that the camera has a memory card, a charged battery and settings that are not off in outer space. When I shot film every roll began with a picture of my shoes. Today the random image from our room at the schloss was the best of a poor lot so I’m posting it. Don’t blame my Leica Monochrom for the results.

SCHLOSS ELMAU – We hiked today, around 12 miles round trip from here to the Ferchensee, where there is an old fashioned Bavarian inn that served us freshly caught trout for lunch. Images from the trail – color with my Leica M and 24mm Summilux lens and black and white with my Leica Monochrom and Luxochron lens.

NEAR GARMISCH GERMANY – We arrived at Schloss Elmau, here in the foothills of the Tyrollean Alps, after an overnight flight from New York to Frankfurt, a rushed transfer to a flight to Munich and a two hour van ride. Lovely site. We arrived in time for sunset, taken with my Leica Monochrom and Luxochron lens. The snow is the aftermath of a freak early storm from two days ago.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Packing for Germany and wrapping up in the office. I spent an hour in our apartment shooting down at things with my Leica Monochrom and Luxochron lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’ve got a lot going on, and on top of everything else today is the run up to a travel day – I’m flying th Munich tomorrow to meet Maria (who is at the Frankfurt Book Fair) to be her spa buddy for a week. I settled for some of our home grown tomatoes today (rotten spot and all), with a Leica Monochrom and Luxochron lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – My college classmates here in New York annually celebrate everyone in the class’s birthday (on a arbitrary date). I’m part of a subgroup that brings better than OK wines. This year one of our colleagues brought four bottles of ’83 Lafitte. I brought a couple of magnums of ’97 Chablis “Les Clos”. One of our number served as our host at the Brook, a midtown club. Here’s a silver cup on our table given annually, judging from the inscriptions, for some achievement or other. I generally avoid in-focus people at affairs like this lest they be judged harshly for hanging out in such a stuffy-looking environment. This with my Leica Monochrom and 50mm Luxochron lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Some new experiments. My Leica Monochrom produces very high resolution. Most of the images that I post here have the capacity to be printed at 24 x 36 inches with ease. What if I crop aggressively: if I’m only interested in web resolution I can crop to very small areas. Here’s an example from today:
