ANTIGUA – Our current life plan calls for spending three weeks or so a year in this excellent version of tropical paradise. Of course as a photographer this is a purgatory of sand and palm trees. Here’s what I managed today.

On this day four years ago (day 894): Mottled light
NEW YORK NEW YORK – This was one of the worst air travel days of my life, thanks to American Airlines. The aircraft that was supposed to take us to Antigua had a serious maintenance problem and had to be taken out of service. There was no American 737 at JFK so a replacement had to be flown from Laguardia. They loaded us on to the new plane but we sat on the tarmac while they topped up catering. Then there wasn’t a tractor available to push us off of the gate. Nine hours late. And we’re traveling with our son and daughter in law and their two-year old. Misery. I got a few images around the terminal but was too grumpy really to get much done.

HOUSTON TEXAS – A travel day back to New York, to repack tonight to go to Antigua tomorrow.

On this day six years ago (day 162): Park Avenue
HOUSTON TEXAS – My final day of portfolio review. I had hoped to get out and about around Houston but the portfolio reviews have taken up most of my time and energy, so more stuff today from downtown Houston in an around Sam Houston Park. Apparently people don’t actually go to parks in Houston. And of course the carpet in the Downtown Houston Doubletree hotel, which I will be glad to escape.

On this date last year (day 1987): Antigua. We’ll be going to Antigua for a week of family Holiday the day after tomorrow. Let’s see if I can master the “tropic photo blues”.

HOUSTON TEXAS – I’m into portfolio reviews today so less time for shooting.

On this day four years ago (day 889): Extreme perspective correction. Four years ago I was experimenting with extreme perspective correction using an 80meg medium format Phase One back. I’ve subsequently used this technique a lot, but have switched to stitching with my Leica Monochrom to produce the very large files necessary for this technique. See the image above.
HOUSTON TEXAS – I arrived here today for Fotofest, which my spelling corrector consistently tries to change to “footrest”. This is a several-months long biennial celebration of photographic images organized by some very energetic people here. Really terrific. There is an opportunity for a week of portfolio reviews by sophisticated reviewers – I’m here to promote my work.
Things are really kicking of for me in the evening so I had most of the day free to walk around downtown Houston with a camera, my Leica Monochrom. I’ve had a lot of trouble editing this day so I’m publishing and unprecedented number of images.
