WARREN CONNECTICUT – We drove up here early today to meet with contractors working on our new bedroom wing. Foundation and framing are done; carpenters are working on the roof and and exterior trim. Most of the site work is done.
Day 2444 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – Shooting around home in the late afternoon (after catching a Mets day game) I had a chance to shoot a number of subjects that required both HDR to lengthen the gray scale, and required multiple image stitches to create a filebigenough to correct perspective without loss of quality. The results were lovely in the case of the first image below. This far exceeds anything that I could have done in film shooting 4×5 and controlling perspective with view camera movements. The image required 18 exposures and about an hour’s work in post.
Day 2442 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life. Nice: 2442 is a palindrome.
On this day last year (day 2077): Villedieu France. This is a cat. I don’t photograph cute pets and I don’t care for cats. There do need to be occasional exceptions, however.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – I took the L Train out to Brooklyn today, beyond Williamsburg, to check out the urban landscape. Heavy sunlight and dark shadows so I used the hand-held HDR technique that I’ve been working on to take the edge off.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – I’m experimenting today with HDR – that is using software to combine multiple exposures to achieve expanded tonal range. I hate most HDR images. Many are found in Instagram and other online venues. They usually look badly over-cooked and artificial. My objective is to use this technique to save subtle highlight and shadow detail, and to amp up local contrast, but only slightly. The technique require combining multiple exposures so I’m starting today on a tripod – thus the somewhat academic look to the images. I’ll give hand-held a go tomorrow. Shooting with my Leica Monochrom and 21mm Super-Elmar lens.
Day 2438 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.
On this day last year (day 2073): Alley. One of my better images from my ongoing alleys project.
