Monday August 21, 2017 – Solar Eclipse Day

COLUMBIA SOUTH CAROLINA – We flew here with a party of friends this morning to observe the solar eclipse. What a remarkable experience. This is my third eclipse: one in Norfolk VA on March 1970 and one in Queen Mauds Land, Antarctica on February 7, 2008. Columbia is a bit more convenient and comfortable than Antarctica.

I was deeply moved by the experience – I’m fortunate to have the capacity to get to Columbia and fortunate to have the means to photograph the eclipse. The best image of the lot is the solar corona, which is an HDR composite of eight bracketed shots. I was amazed to see that the final image showed the surface of the moon. The image reflects several days of work in post on my part. Here you go.

Day 2,867 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.

In this day seven years ago (day 310): Kenya gets intense
