NEW YORK NEW YORK – A day of getting very close with my iPhone – which does well as a macro camera. Today I shot light sources around the house. The stripes on the wall of the square one are an artifact of a 60 cycle flicker of the LED light source. This was a “make something out of nothing” day.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Today I’m documenting the most elaborate gift that we have ever received. We have a friend of very long standing who is a London-based architect. For our wedding anniversary he painted in miniature a copy of Tiepolo’s Anthony and Cleopatra with Maria’s face on Cleopatra and mine on Anthony. No kidding. And then he built an elaborate frame to house it. Tiepolo is one of my big three Italian artists of all time. The image Guill selected is lush and voluptuous, full of Tiepolo excesses. Operatic. Just like Maria and me. Wow. (Let’s leave aside the fact that things ended badly for Anthony and Cleopatra.) Here it is in living black and white shot with my Leica S2 medium format camera and a 120mm macro lens from a tripod (I got serious with this one). Actually two frames stitched to maximize detail.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Finally, at 7:30 AM I see the dentist. The problem tooth has a rap sheet. Root canal in 1988. Oral surgery to fix the roots again, this time through my gum, in 1992. Internally it has broken into many fragments and has become infected. It’s supposed not to have a nerve but it does. It takes an hour and 20 minutes for Dr. Heilbut to dig all the fragments out. He’s a patient man. I’m a mess. I go home to sleep. Shot a pepper mill with my iPhone.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – We drove up to Connecticut this morning. Next week is the end of the busiest season of the year in my law practice so this weekend requires some intense preparation. We also have prep work for a dinner on Saturday for two college classmates who are visiting. Once again my visual life is being crowded.

Here’s a hosta (Spring at last!) taken with my Leica S and 120mm macro lens.

On this day last year: Francesca graduates from law school. I’ve edited this image since last year, moving Francesca to a place in the image that I prefer.
