NEW YORK NEW YORK – February 17 is demonstrably one of the dullest days in my photo-a-day effort: I don’t have much to show for February 17 during the entirety of my past six year effort. The tradition continues.

On this day last year (day 1952): Winter blahs
NEW YORK NEW YORK – A truly God awful day weather-wise. One could get out in the rain and take amazing images of reflections from puddles. All of my camera gear is weather resistant. But on the other had its dry inside and I have plenty to do editing photos. My image for the day was caught in a dash out for a sandwich for lunch.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’m back to shooting with my Leica Monochrom so I celebrated by strapping on a Leica 21mm Super-Elmar lens and heading for Central Park at dusk.

On this day six years ago (day 123): Ice
NEW YORK NEW YORK – Still shooting infrared without an R72 filter. The effect is pretty subtle. Nice light today some I’m posting three images.

On this day five years ago (day 484) 23rd Street shot with film. As I noted five years ago this image was shot with chromogenic film: a black and white film that is processed using color processing. The effect is oddly similar to a weak infra red effect – not really all that attractive and nothing like traditional black and white film.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – At last a lucid day on familiar turf. Still shooting infrared with my Sony a7ii – today without an R72 filter so the infrared effect is less extreme. These aren’t half bad. The third image is mostly out of focus, demonstrating the very good “bokeh” of this camera’s native 85mm Carl Zeiss lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Still shooting infrared. This was a crowded day so I only managed some rushed shots around the Seagrams building.

On this day five years ago (day 482): Seagrams Building shot with film. Same place, much different image.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – So my Sony A7ii is back from being converted to infrared light. Its bandpass is designed to let in some visible red light which converted to black and white produces a fairly subtle infrared effect. Adding an R72 filter in front of the lens cuts out all visible light and leads to extremes looking effects. I’m shooting today with legacy Leica lenses and an R72 filter.
