HOBE SOUND, FLORIDA – So here we are the day after the wedding at the Jupiter island Club with the flag at half-mast in honor of the Boston Marathon victims.
On this day one year ago: Leaf. A closeup of a leaf taken with my Questar telescope.

JUPITER ISLAND FLORIDA – We flew down to West Palm Beach yesterday and drove to the next big island North, Jupiter Island, which is not much more than a sandbar – typically 100 yards wide but about 20 miles long. Maximum elevation is 10 feet. It’s listed by Wikipedia as the second most wealthy populated area in the United States. From the air it looks like an elongated cluster of large houses; from the ground we refer to it as the “Land of Enchanted Hedges”. There are some really, really tall ones. All nicely maintained. The local hedge guy with the largest cherry picker must make a fortune.
We’re here for a wedding – a daughter of a friend of very long standing. For some reason I’m not achieving much here from a photographic point of view. My eye doesn’t seem to connect well with the tropics. Perhaps it’s my Utah upbringing; my resonance is with the desert. For some reason Manhattan works but Florida doesn’t. So I’ll post what I have but I don’t expect you to stand up and cheer about it. The wedding was today but I didn’t get anything good enough to post. The grim-looking overcast does’t help.
On this day last year: Roger’s shop.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – Another day of meetings. I caught this detail of the outside of Grand Central Terminal with my Leica M and 35mm bokeh king lens.
On this day one year ago: Gallery
NEW YORK NEW YORK – April is intense. We have an expectation on Spring that seems to be a bit frustrated this year and a heavy schedule of meetings in my legal life. I sneaked this image out our dining room window – a different take on a familiar scene. Leica M with 35mm bokeh king lens.
On this day last year: Sunset out my window.
NEW YORK NEW YORK = It’s Alexander’s birthday. I didn’t get anything that I really liked at his celebration at Blue Smoke, but walking downtown to join him there (from the Apple store on 5th Avenue where I took a computer in for some warranty work) I caught this. The building is Tiffany, which appears to have developed a tattoo.
On this day last year: Yankees. Yankee stadium. That’s back when the Yankees were healthy. It’s sad to see how far they’ve declined in one year.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – This morning I took a break from professional cares and walked to the office through Central Park in curtain filtered sunlight. Sometimes too filtered and flat; at other times lovely. Today I shot with the Leica Monochrome: the fact that it’s limited to black and white protected me from my worst tendencies and instincts in shooting this time of the year. My lens for the day was the ’60s era Leica 35mm Summicron v.IV, aka the “bokeh king”. The first is three frames stitched.
On this day last year: Look up.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – That’s right . . . the date above says April 15. Tax day in the US. Ugh . . . We pay our first quarter estimated taxes today and it turns out that the recent tax increases have real teeth. I may have to give up photography for chalk drawing on sidewalks. My heart’s certainly not in imagery. Here’s what seems to be my best photo effort for the day.
On this day last year: More damned Spring color. Stop doing this you idiot.
