MANHATTAN – Today i was frankly bored with the idea of going out and shooting so I tried something different. I have a copy stand setup that I use with a macro lens to digitalize film – so I decided to shoot macro on the copy stand. A set up a number of objects including my James Beard Award medal, my favorite film camera, and a selfie of my shutter digit.

On this day seven years ago (day 1185 of one photograph every day): Fog. I’ve done quite a few of these. Fog is common in these parts.
WASHINGTON CONNECTICUT – I shot around New Preston and Washington today with a long zoom lens. I rarely shoot this way – I have an almost religious aversion to zooms, and a rarely produce anything use with lenses longer that 90mm or so. But anyway . . . a bit of change keeps me on my toes.

MANHATTAN – Two photographs by Alia Ali arrived today from the Peter Sillem Gallery in Frankfurt. Later I spent some time in Chelsea and had dinner with a friend of long standing.

MANHATTAN – A number of things are going on today. I spent the afternoon shooting test images out my window on my Sony A7riv with all of my legacy lens, looking to cull my collection. One of the few survivors was a Nikkor from the early 1950s, the same lens that David Duncan Douglas discovered in Indochina when his Carl Zeiss lens was ruined in combat – the discovery led to widespread adoption of the lens by photojournalists and launched Nikon’s reputation. It still performs brilliantly, meeting the demands of a 60 meg sensor and rendering beautifully. A 65 year old keeper.
Then on the street at night in evocative light with my iPhone, and finally at the Metropolitan Opera and the set for a performance of Berg’s Wozzeck.
Altogether a good day.
