NEW YORK NEW YORK – I went out and about today with one of my miracle lenses, a Carl Zeiss 15mm Distagon. This is truly wide and free of linear distortion, and free of optical artifacts and other junk corner to corner. But of course it’s extremely hard to control the images and its really important to keep it level. Here are a couple of ideas with it.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I spent the day downtown. I actually started on Houston Street at REI stocking up on this and that for travel and outdoors. The photography was only ok in not very good light. I’ve shot around the Chambers Street subway station before – there is a lovely arcade with Guastavino tiles on the overhead (as far as one can tell). I also shot the paddy wagon entrance to the Tombs.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I took a walk today in Midtown in the rain and captured 432 Park Avenue, the Nordstrom Tower, which for now will be the tallest residential structure in the world. There are various points of view on this, with some feeling that it’s a blight on the skyline, and others suggesting that it reflects the continued dynamism of Manhattan. Your choice on this issue.

On this day two years ago (day 1,145): Spin meets Basil, who uncharacteristically is in repose. This violates my long-standing rule against cute kids and dogs or other pets on this forum, so I’m taking the position that his is actually a picture of the vase in the background, which is from Spin in Shanghai, even though it is out of focus.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – I got a bit desperate today and ended up shooting the alley behind our building here in the dark.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Walking on a side street in the East 80s I came across a construction project: a crane lifting very large sheets of plate glass up to a penthouse.

On this day four years ago (day 404): Kimball declaims. I re-edited November 23, 2010 and selected a “look up” picture from this date, rather that the one posted four years ago.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – I spent most of the day on foot. After taking the tramway to Roosevelt Island I walked most of the length of the island, then across a bridge to Queens, then to the Socrates Sculpture Park on the East River, and finally to a subway stop and back home. The winter light was fabulous – I had a good day of photographs.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I don’t shoot with long lenses that often but I do like the combination of my Leica T, a couple of adapters, and my Leica R 280mm f4.0. This is a remarkable lens, given a new lease of life with the Leica T and its pretty good through the lens focusing. I’m enjoying experimenting with this lens shooting out my window. Here I’ve found a guy having a smoke on the roof of a building.
