WASHINGTON, D.C. – In Washington for a food policy conference.  I spent the morning exploring the Lincoln Memorial end of the Mall, including an emotional hour at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial.  Captured in infrared.

  1. Maria told me about the Vietnam Memorial photo a few days ago but I just now had a chance to view it. Truely remarkable among so many wonderful other photos. Hope you are enjoying your Utah ghost town photo safari.

  2. A great picture, a portrait really, of a hallowed place. I am reminded to say thank you for your military service: we all enjoy the ability to get on with our lives because you put yours on the line.

  3. Despite spending years in the DC area, I could not bring myself to go to the Vietnam Memorial. Finally, my wife convinced me it was something I needed to do. It was raining slightly that day, and as we passed the nurses memorial, I saw that the raindrops on the statues looked like tears… that’s when I lost it. I had a list of names to find, but only managed one that day.

I’ve been back a couple of times since, and while I’m grateful it’s there, I’ve still not reconciled everything, but I accepted that I can’t long ago. The emotions remain… I guess I need to accept that as well.

    Semper fi, Captain Campbell.
