A great picture, a portrait really, of a hallowed place. I am reminded to say thank you for your military service: we all enjoy the ability to get on with our lives because you put yours on the line.

I thought that I had put it behind me years ago, but on Tuesday my emotional response just clobbered me – it nearly took me off my feet.
Despite spending years in the DC area, I could not bring myself to go to the Vietnam Memorial. Finally, my wife convinced me it was something I needed to do. It was raining slightly that day, and as we passed the nurses memorial, I saw that the raindrops on the statues looked like tears… that’s when I lost it. I had a list of names to find, but only managed one that day.
I’ve been back a couple of times since, and while I’m grateful it’s there, I’ve still not reconciled everything, but I accepted that I can’t long ago. The emotions remain… I guess I need to accept that as well.
