WARREN CONNECTUCUT – I spent a good part of the day here shooting with my Leica Q. It’s a lovely little camera with a 24x36mm sensor and a fixed Leica 28mm f1.7 lens. This is probably Leica’s best 28mm, which provides the rationale for using this camera. The camera is compact and very, very fast. I’ve been experimenting with it using HDR technology – taking three frames and combining them to achieve extended dynamic range – then of course translating into black and white. The camera pops off three frames is a half second or so so it’s possible to do HDR hand held. I usually don’t like HDR images, so this really is an experiment. Here you ro

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Have I said this before? Reviewing the infrastructure for this site I noted that I have key words for “Fall”, “Winter” and “Spring”, but not “Summer”. I guess that’s because summer feels like the normal state of affairs, but statistically that’s not true – winters are actually a bigger deal here. Visually what summer means to me is green stuff overgrowing and pressing in on us. So I’ve added “Summer” as a keyword and you’ll see a bit of it here over the next month.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – We drove up here this morning seeking refuge from what’s happening in our life in New York – helping out with a very sick friend who has been hospitalized with cancer. It is a perfect summer weekend so we got serious down time.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – A busy day prepping for meetings next week so photography is not a top priority. I managed to shoot some hostas, which we have in vast profusion here because we’ve got a lot of deep shade in the summer, which they thrive in. Not a terrific image – last year’s image of similar subject matter is much more interesting.

I’ve started key wording these images as “summer”, which I haven’t done in the past. The summer aesthetic here is a feeling of being crowed by lush plant life, some of which is poisonous and most of which harbors dear ticks and thus Lime Disease.
