NEW YORK NEW YORK – Mary Karr read and sang at Joe’s Pub at the Public Theatre tonight – the performance was called “Kin”, the title of the CD of her songs written with Rodney Crowell. We showed up there with a bunch of publishing worthies and country and western royalty. A sensational evening. Shot with my Sony Nex-7 and Leica 35mm Summilux lens. (The blond woman by the way isn’t Mary Karr.)

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Well here we are, back here again. This time with some old friends as weekend guests. I cooked up a storm on my Big Green Egg. More on this in a later post. Here are a couple of images taken with my Sony Nex-7 and Leica 35mm Summilux.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – We went to a reading and book signing at the Barnes & Noble on 86th Street by our old friend Joe Kanon. Joe is a novelist who has written a series of books set in various places but all set in 1944-46, a period of great transitions. His books have been set in Los Alamos, Venice, Berlin, Hollywood, and in the latest Istanbul. Here’s a picture of Joe taken with my Leica and 50mm Summilux.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – We hosted a dinner party for our friend Jonathan Galassi as a benefit for the Pen America Center (Maria is on the board and Treasurer of Pen). Jonathan read from his new book of poetry – not out yet but Maria had arranged for Jonathan’s publisher, Knopf, to send bound galleys out to guests before the dinner.

I worked through the party with my Sony Nex-7 and a 35mm Leica Summilux. For an event the lens worked much better for me than the Sony Zeiss 24mm: I’m familiar with the feel of its manual focus and manual focus was faster and more accurate than autofocus with the Zeiss because of its tendency to “hunt” in poor light. I didn’t get a picture that I liked of Jonathan. Here are a couple of other friends.
