NEW YORK, NEW YORK – Here it is, April Fools Day, and it snowed briefly this morning. I took the subway to the Highline to see if I could find even a trace of Spring. Not much going on, plant-growth wise. This is what I captured with my Alpa TC and a Hasselblad 60 meg back and Schneider 36mm APO lens.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK – I went to the Yankees season opener against Detroit at the new Yankee Stadium. I associate baseball with early summer days with the stands full of women wearing halter tops. It wasn’t like that. It was colder than hell and wet (the rain delay has bowed to commercial interests) but we were in one of the owners’ suites so we could periodically warm up. The Yankee’s offense and fielding looked terrific. CC Sabathia pitched and put in a sloppy performance – heroic fielding saved a couple of runs – the margin of the 6-3 win. It’s going to be a long season for the Yankees if they can’t muster better starting pitching than this. Here’s the story. No joy in winning against Detroit given the sorry state that the city is in.

I took some pictures of the game and the crowd but I didn’t like any of them. Not my genre. This was taken with my Leica M9 and the bokeh king:

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I took a walk around midtown with my Leica and the “bokeh king” lens this morning. My best image from my last couple of days is a fragment of the Rockefeller Center statue of Prometheus with the background deliciously out of focus.

Just for reference, here’s the other famous Rock Center statue, Atlas, which depicts Atlas supporting an armillary sphere, rather than the Earth. Taken at a few minutes earlier with the same equipment.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I met Maria and the Metropolitan Opera for a performance of Le Comte Ory, a Rossini opera with a genuinely goofy libretto but stunning coloratura. Here’s the Lincoln Center fountain captured while waiting with my Leica M9 and a 35mm Summicron lens known as the “bokeh king”.

NEW PRESTON CONNECTICUT – Driving back from a real estate closing I stopped at the cemetery an New Preston. The Civil War had profound impact on these small New England towns and villages – many have memorials to the war dead. Taken with my Alpa TC, a 36mm Scheider APO and 60 meg Hasselblad back.
