NEW YORK NEW YORK – Self-explanitory? I don’t post many pictures of recognizable people here. Based on feedback on my Twitter feed (where I now have 66,000 followers) pictures of people, even moderately famous people, are of limited interest to my online audience. This may be because I’m better at places and things than people, but some objectively good images of people have been largely ignored online. Still . . . I post the images that I like whatever the subject. Just to make sure that I don’t loose your interest I’ve also included a second image for the day, a water tank in nice light.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I got out to Central Park at dusk on this foreboding, overcast day. Interesting. It turns out that dusk to early evening is actually good light – a fine insight for days that offer otherwise hopelessly dull light.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Here is another exercise in looking up. Neither my best nor my worst. Typical nice winter light on Park Avenue. I’ve decided to give my 28mm Summicron lens a little bit of exercise. It’s a bit too wide for this style of shooting which depends on stitching multiple images to achieve large-format resolution; this type of image has very little impact if it’s small.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Our last day of this almost two-week break in the country. It’s gotten very, very cold here, which at this time of year is not totally unexpected. Lake Waramaug has gone from being free of ice to frozen overnight. Here it is.

WOODBURY CONNECTICUT – So what happens in Woodbury? Just one thing. This is the antiques capital of Connecticut. I don’t mean just the people (there is an assisted care facility on the edge of town). I mean dozens of stores, many of them with extremely good stuff. Maria and here sister made a scouting trip here yesterday. We’re back today to buy. The photo for the day was on the grounds of Mill House Antiques, where be bought a chair (it’s not clear to me that we don’t already have enough places to sit, but whatever) and an elaborate wooden model of an Italian cigarette boat. I’ll photograph it once we unbox it. The photo at the Mill House is taken with my Leica Monochrom (as usual) and a 28mm Summicron lens, a classic but not a focal length that I resonate with so I don’t use it much.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Back to shooting really wide (with my Carl Zeiss 16mm), this time with failing light on a grim day.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – Let’s discuss New Year’s resolutions. I’ve made the usual ones dealing with weight and prompt response to phone calls and emails, and attention to my loved ones. Not surprisingly I’ve also resolved to continue one picture a day for the rest of my life – I actually expect better compliance with this one than with some of the others.

Exactly a year ago a resolved to make a concerted effort to expand my audience online. The progress that I’ve made during the year has been immensely satisfying. Thanks to all of you for your continuing support and interest in this project.

Despite the good intentions no great insights today from a photographic perspective.
