NEW PRESTON CONNECITCUT – A shot of the local architecture with my Leica Monochrom Model 246 and my new Wide Angle Tri-Elmar lens at 21mm. Another day when I’ve taken exactly one picture – very busy on the run-up to Thanksgiving.

On this day five years ago (day 1,134): Mustique. Shot using my Leica 35mm Summilux lens, which I still treasure today. Two frames stitched.
NEW YORK NEW YORK – I bought a 1948 Kodak 35 camera on eBay last week It arrived yesterday so yesterday I cleaned a half century of grime off of it and shot a test roll out my window and around the house. Shutter speeds appear to be ok. The rangefinder is an unusable kludge. There’s no meter. This model was replaced in the Kodak line-up by the well-thought-of Retina line around 1950 or so.
I bought this camera because my mother had one and it was the camera that I used through high school and college. Here’s an image from 1965 – as you will see nothing is in focus, which is typical of this camera.
Finding this camera on eBay was a Rosebud moment for me. I won’t use it much but it’s nice to have around. Here’s what it looks like, shot with my iPhone. I’m busy with Thanksgiving prep today so Ive taken exactly one image. Most days I have six or eight ideas.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I had a “Rosebud” experience today. Elsewhere on this site there is a short biography in which I discuss my earliest photographic experience shooting my mother’s Kodak. The camera was actually called at Kodak 35, which was made in a couple of variants from 1946 through 1949 or so. I found a working model on eBay and bought it for $35. It arrived today so I cleaned the grim off of it, put a roll of film in and took it for a test drive. It was long obsolete by the time I borrowed it from my mother. The version that I bought has a rangefinder but it’s so funky to use as to be non-functional. I’ll post a picture of the camera as tomorrow’s photo. Today’s images are typical test exposures.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – A perfect day. Francesca and Derek organized a continuation of last night’s party at the Breslin, and I spent some time shooting medium format film with my Mamiya 7 and a new (used) 120mm lens.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Francesca organized a birthday party for herself and Derek at a venue here that specializes in ping pong. Great fun. I also shot some architecture off the street with a new Leica Wide Angle Tri-Elmar, a lens that I’ve owned before and now own again – it’s a terrific light lens for travel.
