PETRA JORDAN – Nine images today – I had real trouble editing down to a reasonable number of images. This is the major, one might say the only, tourist site in Jordan, recieving about a million visits each year. It’s important to start walking up the canyon very early to arrive at the center of this vast complex before the tourist tsunami arrives. Great day – worth a voyage.

WADI RUM JORDAN – We spent the morning here touring this lovely high desert with a charming guide. Reminds me of Utah. A lot. Except for the outfits people wear. In the afternoon we were on the road to Petra, our objective for the day.

WADI RUM JORDAN – We spent the day getting here, walking across the border at Elat Israel. Wadi Rum is picturesque desert – it’s where Lawrence of Arabia and the Martian were filmed. We stayed in a tented encampment. These used to have tents in Arabian style; they are now mostly geodesic domes, Martian style.

TEL-AVIV – I was prepared to be indifferent to this place, but I actually like it a lot. Los Angels climate but on a more livable scale. Hip and a little edgy. Good food. Downside: new architecture is South Beach dreary.

GOLAN HEiGHTS – We had a fascinating day today on the Golan Heights being guided by foreign and military policy experts. We visited a tank outpost overlooking the hostile boarder with Syria. Maria had her first encounter with a tank. Shot with my Sony A7riii.

THE WEST BANK ISRAEL – We had an ambitious day of driving around the West Bank and Bethlehem. The West Bank is rolling and mostly arid – it looks like parts of Utah.
