LITCHFIELD CONNECTICUT – It was a perfect clear, winter day in this Currier & Ives village, under a blanket of snow that hadn’t turned dirty yet. I struggle with places like this – it’s too perfect for me to create interesting imaging. So I ended up selecting a utility pole and a couple of signs.

Looking back exactly 15 years to the Congregational Meeting House in New Preston CT. I rephotographed this last week. It’s pretty much unchanged except for fairly severe paint peeling. The Church is obviously under some financial stress. Day 488 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – It was too cold to do anything so I messed around shooting snow. None of the images amounted to much.

More snow

Looking back 16 years to looking up at the Ferarri dealership on Park Avenue. Shot in infrared.   The dealership is still there, as is the AT&T building in the background.   The AT&T Building is an elegant illustration of Parkinson’s Law of Buildings: perfection of a planned headquarters is achieved only by institutions on the point of collapse.

The building was designed by Philip Johnson and John Burgee, completed in 1984. It’s widely considered the first major postmodern skyscraper, with its famous “Chippendale” broken pediment. AT&T’s chairman urged Johnson to make the new headquarters express the dignity of one of the most powerful corporations in the United States and to make it instantly recognizable as the company’s symbol. In January 1982, AT&T agreed to break up its local business into seven smaller regional operating companies. The building opened in 1984, the very same year the divestiture took effect on January 1st. The divestiture reduced AT&T’s book value by approximately 70%.  Sic transit gloria mundiDay 122 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.

MANHATTAN – Brownstone houses here have all of the issues that homeowners in other parts of the country have. Including shoveling snow.

Looking back exacty 13 years to looking up on a foggy night near Citicorp Center. There’s a grace to this image that has always appealed to me.  Day 1,217 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.

Looking back exactly ten years to the Seagrams Building. For a period a decade or so ago there were changing sculpture installations on the plaza in front of the Seagrams Building. Ten years ago there was a pile up of Harleys. This is one of their mirrors. Day 2,311 of one photograph every day for the rest of my life.
