ROUTE 684 NEW YORK – A grim rainy day. I stopped for a stretch at a rest stop on 684 armed with my Leica.

KENT CONNECTICUT – I went to the opening of a friend’s show at a gallery here and shot with my manual focus Leica M10, taking a chance by not bringing my Sony with its eye focus. Overall not bad.

MANHATTAN – The Leica M10-P arrived today! I charged up the battery, strapped on my APO-Summicron 50mm lens (which I call the Luxochron – one of the lenses I didn’t sell) and went out to shoot some familiar territory. It’s great to be back shooting with a rangefinder – the frame lines really do change the way you see. I’ll be spending the next month or so getting familiar with this camera. The first image is a three frame stitch.

MANHATTAN – Feeling dullish today – I went out fairly late with my Sony A7riii and lovely 25mm Zeiss lens and captured not much.

One way that I deal with staleness (a recurring problem in this project) is to periodically switch equipment. I’ve sold my Leica Monochrom and the least-used half of my Leica lenses to finance the purchase of a Leica M10-P and to fill a lens gap left by my sales. The camera arrives tomorrow. We’ll see if it helps.

On this date eight years ago (day 324 of one photo every day): I’m paying a bit more attention to my look backs. In most cases I’m going back to the original files to sort through the selection and redo the editing (I’ve learned a bit in the past eight years and Lightroom and Photoshop have better tools). Here’s a serious reimagining of this image. This is the kind of energetic image that I need to get back to.

On this date eight years ago (day 322 of one photo every day): Building in Manhattan shot in infrared with my Leica M8. This camera suffered from infrared pollution, which was a boot mistake on Leica’s part, but it facilitated shooting in infrared.
