NEW YORK NEW YORK – Well here I am, on Third Avenue, with my iPhone stuffed into a bush with one solitary leaf. I’ve got a wide angle supplemental lens on it. Apart from it’s advantage of always being with you this thing can get really close.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – I’m using the big camera (the Alpa with the Phase One back) for snapshots. It actually works pretty well – I zone focus, the light is pretty consistent outdoors so one or two exposure setting suffice and I keep it cocked and ready to shoot.

The big files permit extensive computer manipulation, in this case an aggressive perspective correction:

On this day one year ago: Sunrise out an airplane window. A very unpromising idea that came out very well.

NEW YORK NEW YORK – Back home i had some catching up to do – reality stuff like pulling together the documents that our accountant needs to complete our tax returns. I managed to take a walk for thirty blocks or so on Lexington Avenue. Here’s what I caught with my Alpa and 32mm Rodenstock lens. Coincidentally two foodie oriented stores. I’ve been doing most of my shopping in Fairway since it opened on 86th Street. I hope Grace’s is ok?

LAS VEGAS NEVADA – I’ve chosen not to dwell on the looniness of this place – it’s been amply documented by others. Here we have an image caught with my Sony Nex-7 while leaving town.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA – I’m here to attend a press conference announcing the nominees for the 2012 James Beard Awards. We take this show on the road every year – if you page back to March 2011 you’ll find that we did this in Portland Oregon in 2011, and in New Orleans in 2010. Las Vegas seems less creepy than I remember. It may be that the vices that people choose to engage in here seem innocent relative to the amount of real evil in the world these days. I traveled with my Sony Nex-7 and a small selection of Leica M-mount lenses. This is with the Voigltander 16mm.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – A rainy foggy day. I’ve done quite a few “distant barely discernible trees in the fog” but that pretty much defines the landscape today. So I took the Alpa closer to home. This with my Alpa TC handheld at knee level, with my new Rodenstock 32mm lens. I was skeptical when I shot it be seeing it here I kind of like it.

WARREN CONNECTICUT – I spent a good part of the day shooting with the big camera around our place in Warren. This is once again an exercise in getting to know my new 32mm Rodenstock lens. How it performs at various f-stops. How it handles on the Alpa. The whole setup is pretty eccentric. Most people get along with their iPhones. But I love the rich, detailed files that the combination provides, and the lovely large prints that I can make from them. Worth the trouble. Anyway, here are two images taken handheld with the 32mm Rodenstock and my Alpa TC.
